In Loving Memory of Emilio Irizarry

Obituary for Emilio Irizarry

Mr. Emilio Irizarry, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2025, in Potomac, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, on June 30, 1935, Emilio was a cherished son of the late Pablo and Venera Irizarry. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Gladys. Together they shared 68 years of friendship and marriage. He migrated to the States shortly after, where he worked tirelessly for the next 75 years to provide a stable and secure life for himself and his family. Utica was his home, or as he referred to “the best place in the world”. He purchased, renovated, rented, and sold homes all over the city.

A man of remarkable skill and determination, Emilio was a true craftsman. He dedicated his life to working as a carpenter, mechanic, plumber, sign maker, and an artist in the lost art of neon signs and murals. He had an innate ability to fix and create anything, always approaching challenges with ingenuity and perseverance.

Above all, Emilio’s greatest legacy was his devotion to his family. As a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, friends, and community.

A man of deep compassion, Emilio was well-regarded in his community, always willing to lend a helping hand. He found joy in listening to mariachi music, cooking, watching Western movies, and spending time with his loved ones.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in the memories he leaves behind and the lessons he imparted—of strength, hard work, and love without limits. His resiliency, humor, and unwavering love will forever be ingrained in our hearts and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Emilio is survived by his wife, Gladys, his children; Marilyn, Emilio Jr., Peggy, Kenneth, Maria, Annette, Luis, Marcia, Jammie and Diana, 34 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, three brothers, Juan, Mina, and Enrique, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by two sons, Jose Luis and Carlos Rueben.

His family finds solace in the hope that he rests peacefully until the day he hears Jehovah’s voice calling him once more.

A celebration of Emilio’s life will be held at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 585 Trenton Rd, Utica, NY 13502 on March 8, 2025 at 12:00 pm.

Rest in peace. Until we meet again.
